About

"The greater the power and resource inequality in a society, the more prevalent the disease outcome, the greater the absolute disease burden on those with less power" Dr Nancy Krieger, Havard School of Public Health

At OUR HEALTH FOUNDATION, we uplift our communities by making healthcare accessible and affordable to all. We believe in an inclusive healthcare system that cares about the health and wellbeing of society.

It should be unconscionable to live in a society where only 16.4 per cent of the population enjoy access to quality healthcare, while five in ten children under the age of five die from preventable medical conditions. These realities, unfortunately, perpetuate the inequalities that are embedded in our healthcare system, where income determines who receives what level of care and as a result the quality of healthcare has become commoditised.

It is unfortunate that our healthcare benefit-system still defaults along racial, geography, gender and income lines twenty-six years since the dawn of our democracy, and the previously marginalised communities continue to suffer the most.

OUR HEALTH FOUNDATION seeks to address these inequalities by taking quality healthcare services where the need is the greatest- in the townships, small towns and the rural areas across the country.

Dr David Ansell, in his book 'The Death Gap: How Inequality Kills',  confirms correlation between illness, premature death and the place of residence. It is for this reason that our operating model positions partnership with government, communities, and the private sector at the helm of our noble quest of making healthcare more accessible and affordable to all.

In January and February 2020, OUR HEALTH FOUNDATION provided Free quality Healthcare to over thousand family members during the "Free Private Healthcare for all" community outreach programme held in Botshabelo near Bloemfontein. We have also treated and tested the homeless and vulnerable people in the Free State Province in support of the government's efforts to contain the Corona Virus pandemic.

Our goal is to extend quality healthcare services to over 21 000 families members by February 2021 through various community-centred programmes. And for us to achieve this feat, we will continue to pursue partnerships with government, local authorities, communities, industry and the private sector.
